One of Paul Reed Smiths most iconic models, the McCarty 594 10-Top is an instrument that seamlessly blends Pauls reverence for the golden age of guitar building with his dedication to improving the art of guitar innovation. A traditional mahogany body is the foundation for the McCarty 594 10-Tops vintage-inspired tone, providing an exceptionally warm base tone thats elevated with the crisp three-dimensional clarity of the maple top. Two McCarty III humbuckers perfectly translate the McCarty 594 10-Tops unplugged tone into your favorite amplifier with gorgeous vintage-inspired warmth and clarity in tone. A chunky mahogany Pattern Vintage profile neck completes the vintage-meets-modern formula with a 10-inch radius rosewood fingerboard that unlocks PRSs signature effortless playability up and down the neck. Top it all off with the rock-solid pairing of a PRS 2-piece bridge and PRS vintage-style tuners, and the McCarty 594 10-Top is definitive proof that the golden age of guitar building is still going strong in Stevensville, Maryland.
Time-tested tonewood combination
From their one-of-a-kind Private Stock custom creations to their SE line, PRS is wholeheartedly dedicated to the idea that superior tonewoods result in superior tone. This McCarty 594 10-Top more than fulfills that philosophy with a tonewood combination that can trace its lineage all the way back to the early 50s: maple-topped mahogany. The mahogany forms the core of this guitars body, adding heft and weight to your every note; in contrast, the maple top imparts an articulate edge that allows everything from single-note lines to roaring rhythm work to cut right through a band situation. Its a formidable tonewood duo, and theres a good reason why the vast majority of PRS guitars harness its sonic potential!
Chunky Pattern Vintage neck profile
This guitars Pattern Vintage profile clocks in on the chunkier side of the spectrum, featuring a distinct asymmetrical profile that conforms to your grip, from the base all the way to the neck joint. While its a thicker shape, its by no means clunky oUR guitarists across all styles have come to favor the Pattern Vintage profile for its comfortably full feel. Combined with the McCarty 594 10-Tops slightly shorter 24.594-inch scale length, this guitar brandishes a decidedly old-school flavor thats all but guaranteed to resonate with vintage 6-string enthusiasts.
Dual-coil power, single-coil clarity
The McCarty 594 10-Top brings forth an onslaught of classic tones thanks to its complement of proprietary PRS pickups. Stationed at the bridge and neck, respectively, are coil-splittable McCarty III treble and bass humbuckers, which were first seen on the limited-run Private Stock 40th Anniversary McCarty Dragon guitar. The McCarty III neck pickup delivers plenty of rich, full-bodied vintage warmth. Throaty but clear, the McCarty III bridge pickup conversely produces a crisp, chimey, clean tone thats easy to pull grit from with the Volume knob or aggressive pick attack. When overdriven, the tone of both pickups thickens while still remaining articulate, perfect for complex chords or searing lead lines. Not satisfied? Pull up on either Tone pot for instantaneous single-coil action!
Only a 10-Top will do
Curl, flame, quilt, and spalt: even in the early days of Paul Reed Smiths guitar building, the company had a reputation for the sheer quality of figuring on their maple tops, with dazzling lines and grain patterns that make any plain top pale in comparison. Naturally, customers began to call in and request that their instruments be built with a nice-looking top far too vague a term for the tonewood scientists in Stevensville, Maryland. Thus, the 10-Top designation was born: a lofty status that requires a clearly defined figure across the entire top, leaving no doubt that the guitar will arrive capped with a superlative piece of timber.
