In the 1980s, George Fullerton and Leo Fender oversaw the production of two bass guitars that would change the landscape of music for decades to come: the dual-pickup G&L SB-2 and the single-pickup G&L SB-1. Today’s G&L SB-1 Fullerton Deluxe electric bass is a reimagining of the 1985 SB-1. It features a split MFD pickup with powerful magnets and adjustable polepieces to give you bone-crushing rock output and soul-stirring pop and soul “P” grooves with the twist of a knob or two. The SB-1’s 34″-scale maple neck now sports a 9.5″ radiused fingerboard for reduced risk of fretting out, along with a satin backing for unfettered access to all your favorite fret positions. The sleek body conforms comfortably to the player’s position, seated or standing. And G&L’s Saddle-Lock bridge supplies an increased transfer of vibrational energy between strings and woods for a deeper, growlier, lengthier tone. You also get G&L’s Ultra-Lite aluminum tuners for reduced neck dive and minimized weight overall. Stake your claim in one of G&L’s proudest legacies experience firsthand all the G&L SB-1 Fullerton Deluxe has to offer.
Leo Fender’s basses feature some of the most celebrated body designs of all time. Some would say G&L’s SB-1 Fullerton Deluxe even ups the ante, with a familiar shape and a more form-fitting contour that even traditional players are sure to love.
A bass lives and dies by its neck. We’re pleased to report that the SB-1’s hard rock maple bolted neck more than holds its own against known classics and contemporaries. Its beautifully carved medium “C” supplies a substantial feel in the hand without getting in the way of a performance. Medium-jumbo frets minimize fret-hand strain. And a satin backing keeps your hand from sticking on your way from easy street to leadsville.
The SB1’s Magnetic Field Design (MFD) split pickup gives you the heat you need for modern rock and the maturity you want for those classic Carol Kaye grooves. This California-crafted pickupfeatures powerful ceramic bar magnets and adjustable polepieces to give you rich output even coverage from string to string, position to position. A simple volume/tone control complementlets you dial in the sound you’re after without any fuss. And, with twice the output per wind over standard designs, the SB-1’s MFD pickup brings the thunder for modern productions.
The SB-1 Fullerton Deluxe’s Saddle-Lock bridge reduces lateral movement of the saddle pieces by tightening an Allen screw on the side of the bridge. Additionally, the Saddle-Lock bridge has a solid protrusion on its backside that is sunk firmly into the instruments body wood. Together, these two features make it easier for string energy to travel into the body and translate into a rich, resonant, and sustaining sound.
