The G&L story began and continues to center around improving on an already great thing. This guiding principle was always at the core of Leo Fender’s painstaking labor of love: to push the limits of guitar design in both playability and tone. The CLF Research Doheny V12 electric guitar is another in a line that is the result of this committed focus. First launched in 2017, the Dohney embodies modern playability and versatility with that ever-present ode to the classic past of the electric guitar’s earliest designs that Leo was so central in creating. At the core of the CLF Research Doheny V12’s modern features is a pair of MFD humbuckers the result of years of research and design testing and tweaking by brothers Dave and Johnny McLaren. These two “Leophites” used their unlimited access to Leo’s decades of technical work, chronicled in detail in the many design drawings and notes he compiled and kept for future luthiers, to bring players a pickup with truly far-reaching, complex tone capabilities.
Splittable V12 MFD humbuckers promote sonicversatility
In his later years at G&L, Leo immersed himself in developing pickups that would give players more control over their tone. The MFD humbuckers in the CLF Research Doheny V12 were designed by the McLaren brothers to carry to fulfill this goal. The MFDs are wired as end-to-end humbuckers that deliver killer tone in series-humbucking, parallel-humbucking, and single-coil modes. The MFDs let you tap everything from wide-open, whispy jangle to thick, grinding single-coil tones. The 3-way switches give you the option for a humbucker (series), single-coil (split), or parallel-wired single-coil pickup usage. From running two crunchy, high-output humbuckers to just a single, twangy bridge single-coil, the G&L CLF Research Doheny V12 can do it all.
Dual-Fulcrum vibrato bridge expands your creative potential
If you’re drawn to the creative potential a tremolo bridge offers, but are concerned about tuning stability, you definitely need to try out the CLF Research Doheny V12. It’s equipped with G&L’s Dual-Fulcrum vibrato bridge, an original design by Leo Fender himself. You’ll be able to bend notes and chords up or down with amazing tuning stability even after deep dives. And thanks to its natural bone nut, tuning issues caused by string binding at the nut are a non-issue.
Modern Classic neck offers great comfort and response
The CLF Research Doheny V12 features a maple neck with G&L’s Modern Classic neck profile, topped with a 9.5-inch radius maple fretboard loaded with 21 medium-jumbo nickel frets. This familiar feel makes maneuverability a top priority, pairing with a vintage tint satin finish to truly combine old school vibes with modern playability. Finally, you’ll be sure to keep this beautiful axe safe everywhere you go with the included premium G&G hardshell case just one more reason the G&L CLF Research Doheny V12 is such a great value.
