A remarkably versatile tool for surface-mount conferencing situations, U843R from Audio-Technica is a phantom-powered sound capture device that features 3 cardioid condenser elements. Levers on the microphone base allow easy reorientation of two elements to provide either 360 or 300 coverage, while the third element operates as a standard cardioid boundary mic. Four recessed pathways on the base enable quick, easy and sophisticated cable routing to meet most any installation requirements with no tools needed.

Because the mic’s elements can be powered and used individually or in any combination, further versatility is easily realized. For example, with two elements powered, the microphone can provide a figure-of-eight polar pattern; with a single element powered, the microphone functions as a standard cardioid boundary mic. Additionally, the small-diameter capsules eliminate phase distortion for clear, crisp sound, while UniGuard RFI-shielding technology offers rejection of radio frequency interference (RFI) for smooth operation and no hassle.
